[he squints, looking him over] No, you've got like... a torso here. [but the mental image of nothing but a disembodied tail with wings makes Eren snigger. But with a lapful of birdghost, he does what comes naturally.
[To demonstrate, he just sticks his hand through the back of the couch and pulls it back. It leaves a little sticky orange residue, but not so much he can't easily wipe it off with his sleeve. The couch has seen worse.]
[Eren makes a face] That's kind of gross, dude. But useful. [he keeps petting, thankful that his hand doesn't go through Dave and end up slimy like that... yuck]
[He goes quiet, staring into his cocoa and not thinking of much. Finally, he looks up.]
Promise you won't disappear on me.
[It's selfish. Selfish and impossible. But Davesprite just wants to hear it. He knows better than to believe Eren can keep it, if the city decides to let him go.
[the petting stops for a moment. Eren looks away, past his cocoa, past the couch, past the walls of the house. He wants him to promise that? But, he can't promise that. It's not possible.
But then, Eren was always doing the impossible. Because he had to. Because it was his lot in life.
So he turns to Davesprite, with a determined look on his face, and sticks out his hand with the pinky finger extended. Such a silly, juvenile action. But Eren's expression is as serious as a heart attack]
Only if you promise me the same thing. I promise I won't leave you. Ok?
[Davesprite looks up, surprised by the sincerity in Eren's voice even though he wanted to hear it. The expression he grants Eren is open and almost vulnerable, eyes wide behind his shades.
Then he smiles, a faint, gentle thing he hasn't shown Eren before, and links pinkies with him.]
I'm not going anywhere. Scout's honor.
[He lets the moment sit for a while, soaking in the warmth. Then his smirk widens.]
Uh huh, your face is the definition! [the masters of mature comebacks. Eren doesn't push back, though, because he's more interested in finishing his cocoa and resting his head on the couch]
